Garmin Connect Net Calorie Goal

I am using Garmin Connect with my Garmin Vivofit 2. You would think the synchronization would be better.

My question: where on earth does Garmin Connect get the daily Net Calorie Goal displayed on the Calories In / Out pane?

I am using MyFitnessPal to track the food. I have my daily goals for macronutrients set. My daily calorie total (in MFP) is 1,537. Yet, every day Garmin Connect wants it to be 1,710. Where is it getting those extra 173 calories from? I can find nowhere within Garmin Connect to configure caloric intake, and it isn't getting that number from MFP. To make matters worse, Garmin Connect then adds 'Active Calories', routinely turning my daily goal of 1,537 into 2,700+.

By the way, I have MFP configured to not track exercise or do any negative calculations (adjust daily calorie goal is off).

Is Garmin Connect just not a very good app or is there some setting I've overlooked?
  • 1710 is Garmin's estimate of your Basal Metabolic Rate, based on your height, weight, sex etc. These are the calories you will burn just by keeping yourself alive, even if you sit around all day. The active calories are the extra calories burned by your activities, steps, runs, cycling etc.

Garmin Connect is adjusting your goal to allow for this, giving you credit for burning extra calories if you like. It's up to you how much of that 'credit' you add to your calorie intake.
