Import sportive route as a Garmin Connect course

I am new to Garmin devices and Garmin connect - I have an Edge 1000

I cannot work out how to import the route of a sportive that I will be doing in order to use it as a course and to download it to my Garmin.

This seems like such a natural thing to do with Garmin Connect that it seems peculiar that it is not obviously available

You cannot import a file into Garmin Connect.
I had the same problem, and still do. Here is what you have to do:

Download the file from whatever service you are using (TCX or GPX)

Connect your Edge to your pc via usb port.

Copy the file onto the Edge:
There is a folder labelled Garmin on the root.
Copy the file to the
Garmin\New Files
folder.

Eject your edge. Start it up. It will process these new files, and that can take a while, so patience is advised.

Now, you will be able to see the route if you browse for courses.
