Garmin Connect Routes cannot sync with Garmon Edge 705

I have been a faithful Garmin customer for over 10 years now. I had an edge predecessor and have had an edge 705 since 2010. It is still going strong and I do not need to replace yet.

So after spending 4 hours trying to use Garmin connect to sync a new route with my edge 705, I found a thread from a few days ago that had a response that it had been overlooked in the new Garmin connect version, it was "probably" down to the TCX format on the 605 and 705 and there was no estimated rectification date or guarantee of a solution.

Please do sort this quickly or I think many customers will become disenfranchised and simply abandon their garmin sports device due to lack of simplicity and functionality and use strava on their apple or android phone instead.

Here's hoping you can solve this.

    I struggled with "fails to sync" all yesterday morning and in the process deleted many of my existing courses on the 705 in an attempt to get new routes to install.

    This is such a great product, not that old, and I tell all my cycling friends about it, so like you I hope it is corrected soon.

    had this problem over the weekend and very frustrating, eventually found a a message that suggested deleting all the old rides from the unit and trying again.
    Once i'd deleted them it worked first time, not ideal but it allowed me to sync and put a new course on to my 810.

    Hope it helps for now.

    Have you found a solution to this yet? i can't sync my edge 810 for new courses or a software update with my mac and really want to be able to use my garmin this weekend. Becoming very disenfranchised with Garmin. Useless UI and UX
  • Perhaps a bit more information will help? And if you're using Express and having issues you'd be better off posting in the Express forum.

    You need to explain what you mean by 'you can't sync', what have you tried, where does it fail, are there any error messages? It really is impossible to diagnose remotely with hardly any information :)

    Can't sync to 705

    With a recent upgrade...

    Own a 705. Can no longer create a course in garmin.connect.com and 'send to device' via garmin express.
    What happens is I (and by the sounds of it all of us), get an error saying failed to sync. No other error messages or codes.. just failed to sync

    The only think I can do is create the file in another service, export it to tcx or gpx and manually load via explorer.

    Garmin Express no longer loads courses from Garmin connect to device but it will sync activities from device to GC.
  • Cant upload courses to 705

    Same for me, in France just now courses upload to my friends 810 but get message saying There was an error synching with Garmin Connect in Express but similarly cannot send the courses using the old model connect either - very frustrating as we are off into the hills this morning.

    Same issue - I can upload but cannot download routes to my 705, I get the same fail to sync message most times but occasionally it says sync successfully but the route remains in the queue. Garmin need to resolve this issue with express asap - none of the previously posted solutions work eg clearing all routes on 705 and clearing connect queuing items or Safari history etc

    I am having the same issues - if I try connect classic I get the internal server error, if I try connect modern mode I get there was an error syncing with device...

    I've tried it all. SD card in, SD card out. Delete device - re add device. Uninstall Garmin express, re-install GE...emailed support and got a please send screen shots ad more info, then zip...

    Frustrated and annoyed now.

    This is not a helpful response.

    It is very clear that the new course export format is not compatible with 605,705,805,810 and whatever else.

    Please resolve. At least give some relevant feedback.

    Why have Garmin gone quiet on this - this is a major reputational issue
