Spam Management

I've only just joined these forums recently, yet as a professional company I would have thought the IT skills of the Garmin Forum Administrators would have implemented some form of Spam Management by now.

Even if i wanted to report every spam post, the admins have set a level of reporting every 120 seconds of more. Seriously? that would take hours just for me to report all the posts.

I request the Garmin forum Administrators to implement some form of spam management :-

Deleting spam posts is only half the battle. Banning IPs, usernames, emails, making registration harder and monitoring new users before upgrading them after x amount of posts is the way to go.

could someone get the Garmin Administrators to acknowledge the issue please
  • @Toxic17 good point. I just wanted to view some legitimate posts, yet I find this forum virtually unusable with all the spam in the way. Just the subject line of some of these posts are very offensive. Hopefully the admins already know about it and are working on it.
  • QNAP forums used to be like this too. overrun with spambots. its an easy fix, if the Admins know what to do.
  • I have just tested registration via MSIE.

I didn't even have to use email authentication? once i chose email/username and password, i was logged in!

what madness is this? sure Garmin doesn't just let spambots register this way.

    NOTE:

    Members 878,942 Active Members 49,198

I wonder how many fake members reside here? Admins i think you need to check how many real users have 0 posts before 1 year ago. that will give you a real total of active and REAL users. I think some pruning on the Members list may need to be done if the forums are this wide open.
  • Looks like Garmin are listening

In an effort to reduce a recent increase in spam Garmin has implemented a verification requirement for all new postings. This will remain in effect as we pursue other available options. We regret the inconvenience.

So me emailing the CEO worked ;)
