vivoactive "elevation correction" should default to "enabled" for activities

As the vivoactive doesn't have a baro sensor for elevation, and it uses GPS, which is usually very inaccurate.

when importing activities, "elevation correction" defaults to disabled, so you get really bad elevation info. If you manually enable it (on one activity at a time) it's much closer to reality.

This is like the fr15, but there, elevation correction was "enabled" by default on all activities.

This is a GC issue and not a vivoactive - that's why I'm posting here.

Looking for a Solution

I'm looking for a similar solution. My last Garmin watch defaulted to "Enabled," however the VA does not. Seems like a simple fix: If device=Vivoactive, then elevation_correction=true.

I agree to that. I´ve mentioned it twice in the german forum and several time here in different threads. No change at all.
Even the Garmin Connect "help" says: Automatic Elevation is only deactivated, when devices have a barometric sensor, which is obviously not the case.

My workaround is, that I have to open the GC site, select the activity and activate the automatic correction manually. Every time... Quite unnecessary!

There are many device specific threads about this issue. Also in the german forum, there are many suggestions in the bug-, requirements- or Vivoactive-section.

Nothing happened since the VA was released and I had to manually activate the correction within 87 activities.
That is really annoying! And wrong either, because you describe that functionality as working automatically on devices without a barometer (which is the case).

My activity yesterday was automatically set to "Elevation correction : Active".

elevation correction wrong?

for the past month my garmin connect has shown a wrong altitudeprofile for my bicycling - it only works for the first 10% and the last 5% of my tour ??? and when I manually set the correction of in garmin connect I get the correct sum of altitude but the altitudeprofile still shows wrong...
would be good i we could set the standard of the altitude correction ourselves....

I have the opossite problem. I have fenix3 with barometer, elevation correction is enabled default but it should be disabled.

My setting is disabled for every run on my Vivioactive 4S. It's extremely cumbersome to enable manually. And this today 7/28/23. I'm thinking I might have to make a switch to another brand as I am training for a hilly marathon and elevation is important to the training

Vivoactive 4S has a barometer tho. By the logic of the comments in this thread, it wouldn't be appropriate to enable elevation correction by default.

This thread (from 8 years ago) was about the original Vivoactive.
