Trying to do this in Garmin Connect for my 220. What's wrong?

    I've just been sent this:

The issue you are referring to is something that we are aware of and are working hard towards a resolution, however, we do not have a timeframe for this to be completed as yet.
In the meantime you can send a custom workout by changing your Connect to Classic View. To change the view please follow the below path:
Select the head and shoulders icon from the menu situated on the left hand side of the web page
Here select Switch to Classic Temporarily

Although if I switch to 'Classic' then go to 'Plan' > 'Workouts', it just tells me to go back to Modern full-time, or just this time...

Anyone else have any luck with that method? Creating the 'shell' of the workout online and editing it on the watch is a huge PITA.

Looks a bit advanced to me but I'll give it a try.
    Thanks for the tip though!

I tried that and received this message:
  • To those of you who have a license of the Fit File Repair Tool: since version 6 the tool includes a Workout Editor. It allows you to define workouts and export them into workout fit files which you can copy to your device afterwords.
Defining steps with a duration of less than 1 minute is possible, I just checked it.

To activate the Workout Editor (it's a hidden feature of the Repair Tool) go to Settings -> Program Settings -> Activate Workout Editor.

You can download a screenshot of the Workout Editor here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/91455145/workoutEditor.jpg

2700 thread views, and about of week of it not working (maybe longer), still not resolved. As shown by a user here that there is a fairly simple error (at least to me) in the scripting. There is a workaround involving the use of Garmin Training Center, and a third party application. But the GTC workaround will require that I connect my watch to my computer, which I do not do. It is also less intuitive to use than Garmin Connect. Luckily for me I dont have any intervals over the next 2 weeks under a minute. I have not heard a peep from Garmin on my support ticket either.

This is lame! Trying to program strides, which obviously won't work now. Same error as everyone else that my time is not "permissible". Hoping for a fix ASAP!!

I am not very happy with Garmin lately and this kind of problem is an example of what I mean. It should be already solved since it doesn't seem something very complex to do. Actually I have a Forerunner 410 but but I think I will give a chance to a different vendor when changing my old device by a new one.

    >Workouts are now exclusively available in our new, improved Modern Garmin Connect.
I'm glad we cannot even switch to Classic to create workouts :-(((

Same problem with run workouts where sub-1min steps are quite frequent in my plan :-(

    Garmin? Anybody :-) ?
    thanks

Thank you, I never thought of that.

If there's anyone out there that needs a workout created with times under 60", please reply here and I'll create them for you. As long as I don't get swamped with requests, I can have them back within a few minutes.

    Ugly workaround for FR620

I successfully tried an ugly workaround for those who really want a functionnal workout before Garmin fix the issue.

    • First create your workout in GC (with step duration set to whatever GC accept).
    • Transfert it to your device.
    • Get the FIT file from your device (I accessed the device directly through usb mass storage interface of the FR620).
    • Convert it to csv using http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/
    • Edit the csv file with a descent file editor to replace the step durations by the desired ones. The steps are on lines starting with "data". (durations are expressed in milliseconds, 30 seconds is thus written in the file as "30000").
    • (optional) It may be interesting to also change the name of the workout to avoid the one created on GC to be replaced.
    • Convert the modfied csv file to FIT back with the same online tool.
    • Put the FIT file back on the device. I'm not sure if it must be placed in the "WORKOUT" directory or in the "NEWFILES" directory but I tried both and one of them worked.

I tested it with a FR620, I don't know how to get the FIT file from other devices.

Hope this helps some impatient endorphin addict :)
