Wrong Activity name

Hi Guys,
I'm doing every sunday the same run and systematically the Garmin watch name this run "Johor Baru run" or something like that. I don't know why. This is not the name I want to have. I would rather the system not put anything than a wrong name to it. I can of course change it, but I'd rather change it once for all for all existing and future runs. Does anybody know why this is happening and how to solve this?
Thanks,
Viv'
  • The name is based on GPS data and name mapping that Garmin has available. In some places it can be a city or town, in others, it can be the name of the voting district, city district, etc. The naming is done by Garmin Connect when an activity is uploaded, and not by the watch,

I understand that the name is formed from the location + activity. Yes the name is applied by the GC not the watch but the location should be generated by the watch after all.
What i don't understand is how Garmin Connect or watch has data that are that wrong, the name mentioned is by far that important for my city (voting district, city district, etc).
  • For activities with GPS data, the start lat/lon is used to get the location name by GC. And based on where you are, the name might seem odd, but in some way is the name of the location where you started. It might be that it's a smaller sub-division that you expect.

I just talked with somebody from Garmin Romania confirming the Garmin Connect problem.
Hope that we can send sufficient request to them in order to fix this bug.

If you want to contact Garmin and sent a problem to them just use the following page. They said that in 3 days i will get a reply.

2016 almost over and still same problem

I live in El Salvador and I am getting the same naming error as everyone else. My runs get named to a tiny little town in a completely different country. Some members blame the "3rd party database" as a cause of the problem. Garmin is a mapping company and should have this information verified. I am not talking about a small street that got changed. This is mistaking a city of 2 million people with a small town 300km away with maybe 1000 population.

Also naming the activity as untitled is even worse as an option. At least leave it as simply Running.
  • As mentioned by others - this is not Garmin getting it wrong but a fault with whatever database they are using to get the name. In the UK the information used is election voting districts which are meaningless to most people but are "accurate". I presume as for me the actual location shown on the map and the track for an acivity are correct
