requesting device identification file failed on fenix 2 first time bluetooth use

I am getting this error while attempting to connect my garmin fenix 2 via bluetooth to my phone.

I installed the gamin connect app on my android phone.
I turned on bluetooth on my fenix 2, and tried to do the pairing, entered the key, and step one worked (smiley face) step 2 failed with this error

"requesting device identification file failed"

i googled and there is ZERO help for this situation listed on the web for fenix 2.

i am encountering the same message. Android Galaxy S4 with Fenix 2
  • Requesting device identification file failed

Ditto here. Forerunner 220 software version 3.10 and GPS version 3.30. Trying to pair w/ Moto X 2nd generation running Android 5.1. The phone just updated within the last couple weeks so I'm guessing that has something to do w/ it.
  • Requesting device identification file failed on fenix 3

This just started happening on bluetooth sync with my Fenix 3 with LG G3 phone. Also cable sync with Garmin Express app on my macbook does not recognize my watch. Watch software recently updated to version 4.40. Does that have anything to do with it?

    Same same..

    Hi.

I bought a Fenix 3 for a week ago. Everything was ok, until this morning. Now I cant
connect my fenix 3 to my Samsung Galaxy S5 anymore.

I tried factory reset of the watch,
reinstall Garmin connect mobile on my phone,
Turning BT off and on, on both devices..

    Nothing help!

    A bit frustrating!

    Regards
    Jinkins.

    Same Issue

Fenix 3 with Samsung Galaxy S6. Requesting device id file failed.

Gotta be something with the server end. My steps also won't update today.

Well, Garmin seems to keep breaking things, then fixing them, then breaking them again with their updates :( Not cool :(
  • Also have this issue now.

All was fine yesterday afternoon, then in the evening my text messages stopped coming through on the Fenix3
I tried to disconnect the Fenix3 and pair again with HTC One M8, and now I keep getting stuck at ":( requesting device identification file failed"
