Add household chores to Activities

I am not a hardcore exerciser. My sister is and uses the Garmin vivofit and likes it, so I got one. I was looking to add an activity and there is no option for yardwork, housework, stuff like that. It is hard work and only results in limited steps, but I think it should still count.
  • Even if you could add a Yard work activity, it wouldn't estimate any steps for you. Manually adding an activity is really only good for estimating calories burned.

After all, your body is working harder even without taking as many steps...the vivofit counts the steps pretty well regardless...it is really the extra calories that you are burning that you want to keep track of.

For situations like this, I use my heart rate monitor. I put the heart rate monitor on and when I sync, I have a Garmin Connect activity showing my heart rate and my calories burned. I did this for doing yardwork and mowing the lawn etc. Heart rate monitor automatically creates an activity. You won't be able to choose "yardwork" as the activity type, but I just put it as "Other" and know that the calories are a good estimate with the heart rate monitor.
