Rearranging tiles on Garmin Connect front page

I'm trying to rearrange the tiles on my Garmin Connect front page (dashboard?) in Google Chrome. It looks like the tiles are designed to be drag-and-droppable. I can pick up any tile with the mouse by clicking-and-holding near the top of the tile. Then I can drag that tile to a different position on that page. The page even shows a marker, which tells me where my tile is going to get dropped once I release the mouse button.

However, when I actually release the mouse button, most of the time the tile simply expands into a full-screen mode instead of dropping into the new position. When I return back to tile mode, the tile in question usually remains in its original position, i.e. my drag-and-drop attempt is ignored. Occasionally the drag-and-drop rearrangement procedure works, but it only happens in about 1 case out of 10. Most of the time the tile ignores the drag-and-drop request and simply expands to full screen.

I just tried the same thing in Internet Explorer and observed pretty much the same behavior: sometimes drag-and-drop works as expected, sometimes it expands the tile and moves it to a new position, but most of the time it simply expands the tile and refuses to move it to a new position.

Is there a way to reliably force a tile to a new position on the front page of Garmin Connect?
  • Hello?

P.S. I accidentally discovered that I have much better luck dragging the tiles around while holding down CTRL key. In fact, it works with CTRL. How come it isn't mentioned anywhere in the Help section? The Help section simply states that tiles can be dragged to new locations. CTRL is not mentioned.
  • I can move tiles around reliably and without pressing Ctrl. Possibly an issue on your PC.

No, it is not an issue with my PC. I tried it on several completely unrelated PCs running Windows 7 and Windows 8 (x64 Pro). The problematic behavior is there on all of them in Chrome and IE. Dragging-and-dropping a tile simply opens that tile into full-screen mode, but does not rearrange it. As I described in the OP, occasionally it works as intended, e.g. trying to do it 100 times will result in about 3-5 successful rearrangements.

If this issue is somehow tied to me, it would be an issue with my Garmin Connect account, not with my PC.
  • Just tried it in Firefox on another completely unrelated PC running CentOS Linux. I see exactly the same behavior: it is impossible to rearrange tiles. They open full-screen instead of dropping into new location. Holding down CTRL fixes the problem there as well.

    (apologies for the necro reply)

Thanks for the ctrl tip. That did it for me.

Also surprised this isn't more visible in documentation.
  • I think the issue is between the keyboard and the chair.
