Garmin Nuvi touchscreen problem

I have just successfully replaced the battery of my Garmin Nuvi. The Garmin is about 4 years old. Everything is now working except the touchscreen. The screen lights up up and gives me the opening screen. But when I touch an 'OK' prompt or try to type, nothing happens. What is likely to have happened? I thought I had reconnected the various leads correctly. Which one governs the touch screen facility? Any help appreciated.
