About 24 hours ago Garmin Connect said it couldn't find Garmin Communicator Plug-in on my computer minutes after uploading the day's 3 activities. I repeatedly downloaded & installed it successfully only to be told I didn't have it! This is still the case today: I have not even been able to upload today's activities
What browser are you using? Support for plug ins is being withdrawn by the various browsers, each with their own timetable. Chrome no longer works with plug ins.
You could install Garmin Express to your computer. It should sync the activity files automatically to Garmin Connect anytime you connect your device. It worked flawlessly with my edge500.
However I uninstalled Garmin Express as an early version of it had issue installing a map update on my very old nuvi (2008 I think). I also didn't want to take any chances of it mucking maps up on my older Marine GPS's. The final straw for me was when Garmin Express updated the software on my edge500 with out asking or telling me it did so.
But if you only have a Garmin fitness device that is two or less years old, I'd say use Garmin Express. For syncing activities it worked great. They were on Garmin Connect before I could even get my browser open.
Just to add 2 cents about my recent learning curve in Chrome: Garmin Express works very well in Modern View. Classic View wants the Communicator plug-in which, as stated above, won't work in Chrome. I have multiple devices of varying ages and Express is finally starting to accommodate.
Let's not talk about the incredibly unintuitive GC Modern though. :( I simply switch to Modern if I need to upload to a device and then switch back.
