Hiking calories not included in reports

I haven't done much non-hiking exercise this month as I've been preparing for an upcoming hike camp trip so have been hitting the local trails with my full pack to try and condition myself... Because of this, I've noticed an obvious flaw in the calorie reports... they are missing hiking calories!

Running, Cycling, Walking, Fitness Equip and the mixed bunch "Other" are all there in the report and working for me. I don't have any swimming activities, but I'm assuming that works given how popular an activity it is... But hiking just doesn't show as a category and nor is it included in total... (and no, the walking group is not capturing the hiking data.. it is missing entirely).

I'm guessing this is a bug?

I found the same issue. I list my hikes under 'other' and manually enter the calorie data to get it to track in reports.

Hiking kms not included in reports

    +1

Hiking kms don´t count either towards totals.

I found that hiking is not included in total time, active calories, or kilometres. It seems strange given that hiking is popular and often hard work!

I list mine as walking so I can see it in the reports, but this is not ideal.

Just spent 30 minutes talking to Garmin support about this issue and then received this auto-reply. I hope I never have a more serious problem with Garmin.. a proper response from any other market leading customer orientated company like Apple or Amazon would be for them to file the case themselves

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

In order to create a case for you, we will need the following information from you:

Error message or problem you have received
The .fit files you are trying to upload
What you have tried so far
    Screenshot of error
    myGarmin username
    Device Serial Number
What version of Windows or Mac you are running
What version of Garmin Express you are using
    Your Internet Browser
There are also a couple of files we will need to help our team with resolving your issue.

Firstly, we will need you to collect the logs from the computer using Garmin Express:

    Windows:

    Open Garmin Express
Click Settings in the upper right-hand corner (Gear icon)
    Click Send logs to Garmin
    Enter the following code:
    Click Submit
    Mac:

    Open Garmin Express
Click the black triangle icon in the Mac menu bar (gray bar at the top of the screen)
    Click Preferences
    Click Send logs to Garmin
    Enter the following code:
    Click Submit
We also require the Garmindevice.XML file. To locate the Garmindevice.XML, please do the following:

    Windows:

Connect the unit to the computer
    Open my computer
    Open the Garmin Drive
    Open Garmin Folder
    Mac:

Connect the device to the computer.
Open the GARMIN drive on the Desktop.
    Open the Garmin folder.
Can you please email me the file called GarminDevice.XML.
I am happy to help with your enquiry.
  • Garmin seems to have a diverse multitude of customer service deficiencies and issues. I too have given up approaching them due to the difficulty of communicating with them and what seems to be either disinterest or inability to correct issues (maybe both!). Ah well. Hoping Apple or Google will eventually move into this space and it will be easy to track and analyze everything

Hiking is showing up as other! It's better than no credit, but strange place to put it and I think hiking is popular enough to have its own title.
