Before you ask if I tried taking it out to dinner first, hear me out....Anyways, I purchased the Nuvi 50 a little over a year ago for my father (perfectly out of the warranty period). He has used it about 4 times and keeps it in the original box/packaging when he doesn't use it. Last week it said it needed to be updated but he couldn't touch anything to get off the update screen. So I came over to see what I could do. I updated it but it still would not respond to anything on the touch screen. It boots up fine, holds a charge and brings me right to the default screen but I can't select anything. I contacted garmin and they of course ran me through the soft reset and master reset. We even tried to calibrate. All of which obviously didn't/wouldn't work because as I stated the touch screen wouldn't respond. I was hoping to either find some better ideas conversing with you guys or possibly a way of taking it apart and checking to see if something was wrong. The two options they gave me were to pay another $80 to have it fixed or they would give me an $80 credit but I would need to purchase something $150+. While, I appreciate my two amazing options I was hoping for a better solution. Thanks for your time and advice.
