Edge 500 Not Showing Calories Burned on Last Two Rides

I just completed a bike ride today (4/22) and noticed there was no calorie information showing in Connect from my Edge 500. I checked recent biking activities, and my last ride using the Edge 500 (4/8) also doesn't show any calorie information. The ride previous to that (3/18) and all before it have calorie information. Nothing else appears to be missing, just the calorie information.

Although they may do their own "math," it does show up in Strava.

Any thoughts on why this would no longer show up in Connect?

This has also happened on my 500 as well.

    No idea why.

Did it start on a specific date?

I've got another 500 that is for a bike I haven't ridden yet. I'll be interested to see if the first ride records that information.

Just done another ride today and still showing at zero. :-(

The last ride with it OK was the 8th April and the next ride I did on the 11th April went to zero.

It sounds like it was around April 8th that the data was no longer being shown in Garmin Connect. Since there are two of us (at least), I'm assuming it's a Connect problem and not a problem with the device. I'd also guess that Strava calculates its own number for calories based on the data it gets from Garmin.
  • Having same problem with my Garmin 800. The last Calories that were reported was on April 6th for me, since then nothing.

So this got me thinking about whether it was the Edge 500 or the Garmin. I noticed I had another ride during this period where I didn't wear the HRM and this had calories recorded. So this points to the Edge 500 and not Garmin Connect.

I just did a few tests walking a few hundred meters with and without the HRM. It recorded (or estimated) calories when the HRM wasn't present but nothing when I wore it.

Then I came across this thread where somebody else has experienced the same thing.

So I just did the last bit they mentioned about syncing the user data from Garmin Connect after I had just gone in and forced an update to the heart rate zones even though I didn't change anything. I had also noticed on my Edge 500 that the activity class was set at 10 before this which is not right for me. So forced the sync and set the Activity Class to 6.

Now I did a short walk with the HRM on and it did record the calories correctly.

So hopefully this is OK but will see after the next proper bike ride.
  • Although I haven't ridden since I did the master reset, I think you're right. I finally got my tri bike out and used the Edge 500 I bought for it, and it is showing the calorie information. So I'm guessing this reset will end up fixing the Edge I use for my road bike. Now I just need to get another magnet for the tri bike - the plastic broke when I tightened it, which I didn't discover until I was riding today and all of a sudden the mph dropped off. Interestingly, it eventually picked it back up using the GPS on its own (but it took a couple of miles).

I did a long ride at the weekend and the calories are now being recorded correctly. I hope it stays like this.

Many thanks for this tip. I reentered HR Zone 1 numbers on my 520 (without changing the actual number figure) and my calories now display indoors
Took me all day trying to fix this
    :mad: --> :)

edit next day: sheesh, doesn't work today. Couldn't get any calories to display despite doing above, as well as soft reset (but keeping data)
    NOT happy

edit again: Fixed, finally. Attached 520 to computer with USB cord; "saved" Garmin Connect HR zones (even though changed nothing); entered an jActivity Level under profile (was blank), Using Garmin Express, synched new data on computer to 520; rode X 3 minutes (after having to set up 520 again once turned on), and calories now showing.
Holding my breath for tomorrow's ride.
