Gpsmap 62s Battery Life

I have a new 62s and a pair of new alkaline batteries do not last a day.
I have what I think are the correct back light and battery savings settings.
I have also tried NiMH rechargeables.
One thing is strange in the software. I believe there should be a menu - Setup - System and under it you can set battery types etc but on mine under Setup I do not have a System option, is this right?
I have connected using Garmin Express and updated my software to the latest 6.10 version.
