Garmin 920xt Bricked after last firmware update!?

Former Member

After updating the watch via the new Connect tool my watch is now in an endless reboot loop where it shows the garmin logo for some time (15s?) Then beeps and reboots. I have tried holding down power for 15s and it will turn off. Turning it back on resumes this boot/reboot state. I can't get past the garmin logo. HELP!!!

  • I have the same problem, also running Mac. What did you do to finally get it to mount??

    /Andreas
  • Sometimes when you turn on your Garmin device, it will be processing an update or new course files that may have been added. This takes time, sometimes well over a couple minutes. For what ever reason, Garmin chooses not to display a "splash" screen letting you know this is happening so the net result to the user is that you think it's doing nothing. So patience is key, just wait it out.

If however you've interrupted this process several times, you may just need to do a hard reset or possibly rebuild the file system and then let it try to update again.

I'm not saying that is the issue with your devices, but it might be.
  • Thanks, but I can't even get it to mount :( Is there any way to rebuild the file system or get in contact with the watch from the computer? I have tried hard reset (hold down up- and down-button, start, release up, release down) but it doesn't work. Typically the watch starts, shows the Garmin splash screen for 10s and then reboots and does the same thing again, over and over... :(

I don't use any of the Garmin Forerunners or any of their other 'watches'. I'd suggest one or all of three things:
    1) ask over in the sub-forum for your device. There you'll find people with specific knowledge of it and it's peculiarities.
    2) search the Garmin Support sites FAQ's.
    3) call Garmin Support. Even if your device is out of warranty, they will still give you assistance over the phone.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I have sent my watch to Garmin now :)

I was finally able to get it to come back to the main screen. Now, however, no connect iq apps will sync to the watch.
