Although this never came up for me as I don't ever start with worn shoes. I can see where if someone were moving from a different activity tracking system or when purchasing a used bike, this would…
This would be a good option. Currently some can import older activities and add shoes to them.
I don't understand the comments about "nobody ever starts with worn shoes". But we all had shoes already when we started using using Garmin Connect. I just bought a Garmin device and have three pairs in rotation.
Every other gear tracker I've used prior to Connect allowed for input of accumulated mileage. This conversation has been going on for 7 years, and with the myriad data fields in Connect we still can't enter a simple starting number for gear mileage? From a coding perspective it's as easy as it gets.

Really. I'm new to Garmin and Connect, and this seems like an oversight. How have Connect users been talking about this for 7 years (at least, that I found here) and such a simple code update has not been implemented.
For Garmin, this watch I just bought is an upgrade from the way I was doing things before, and it's probably going to last for years. When the time comes to replace it, I will be looking much closer at the competition. This ignored simple to implement feature request is just another in a growing list of shortcomings, glitches and idiosyncrasies in the Garmin environment.
