In running training programs, why no distance?

Sorry if this seems daft. In connect, when adding a running training program for a marathon, why is there no distance for each training day? I understand zone training with a HRM is better for endurance and speed, but when training for the marathon, a set distance, shouldn't distance be a training measurement? Or am I missing something?

Thanks, Mike
  • Agreed - there is certainly a place for distance based workouts - e.g. intervals of various lengths apart from longer fixed distances. Zones don't work very well for intervals as the Heart rate often only reaches the target part way through the interval.
