Running workout by pace

Hi,

I want to create a workout for running where the watch ensures I am constantly within the right pace. However, when I do this (using the obvious way of setting running steps within certain pace zones, what the watch does is ensure that the average pace for that step matches the desired zone. That's different from what I want. I want the pace to remain in the zone throughout the step.

How can I achieve this?

Thanks,

Paulo Matos
  • which device are you using - I believe that on some devices you can create a workout that uses instant pace rather than Average - but if you create the workout in connect it will use average pace

    Using 920XT
  • Have a look at DCRAINMAKER on instant pace - he goes into a lot of detail - I'm not familiar with the 920

    Same issue here

I am having the same issue with a Forerunner 225.

I used to be able to create a workout where it would try to keep your pace within the range you specify in the workout.

Now (after a patch?) it seems that the workout tracks my average pace over the entire workout...? Oh, and when the workout is going, it doesn't auto-pause when you stop at a stoplight. So, you have to run significantly faster for a while afterwards in order to bring your average pace back up in range and stop the incessant alarms and vibrations.

Not very helpful when you want to run at a certain pace rather than running faster to catch up your average pace.

    Does anyone have any tips?

    Thanks in advance!

This is a terrible workaround and needs something better from Garmin but... the best way is to approximate it. Instead of creating a 60 min run with pace between 5:00 and 5:30, create 12 x 5mins intervals all with pace between 5:00 and 5:30. I know it's a pain but couldn't find a better solution.
  • It isnt super easy to find but on my 235 you are able to set alerts for varoius things (high or low HR, high or low pace...etc) They are all based on current pace/HR etc. Not sure if your's has 'Alerts' for an activity...

It is found by clicking the runner guy (activity button) going to RUN or BIKE etc....then hitting down into settings to "Activity Settings" (enter)...then scroll to ALERTS...

I didn't find pace setting to be very successful for me, even with a pretty decent range (~45sec) it was constantly alerting - high/low... a high/low HR would be more consistent i would think.

HA! Thats exactly what I did to get around it. I have a workout with 1km at the target pace interval than repeated x number of times.

I wonder what the limit of repeats you can have in a workout....

    Thank you!

Thank you, I found it on my 225 under Activity Settings near the Auto Lap.

It must be fairly new feature since I haven't seen it there before. I will post back on how well it works on the 225....
