Calorie Count for Forerunner 610

I am a bit baffled. I just started using the Forerunner 610. I ran 5 miles in 45 minutes, with an average heart rate of 162 and yet my watch says I only burned 200 calories? The day before I ran 6.14 miles with the same average heart rate and the watch said I burned 260 calories. Is it me or is the calorie count way off? [Please tell me it is way off!]

Thanks in advance!
  • So many threads on this subject - Calorie count is virtually impossible to accurately calculate purely from a GPS watch and Heart Rate Monitor. It is of some use for comparison of workout energy consumption over a period of time but of very little value in trying to match food consumption to what you burn. The calorie calculation does look low if I compare with mine 4.5 miles in 40 mins 489 calories ave heart rate 139. My weight is 175 lbs and Max HR about 180. I think you'll find the figures will settle down as the watch gets used to you :)
