Calorie counter

I had to do a master reset for my Garmin 610 as the screen froze. The first run after, the calories burned was very low, 14 for the first mile!, 12, for the second, and then up to around 70 for the remaining. The average heart rate was higher for the first 2 miles so I am unsure why the count for calorirs was so low. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
  • There's loads of threads on here about calories and no real conclusions on how the calorie burn is calculated - people certainly seem to get very strange results from time to time. Did you do a complete master reset - so clearing all the memory of previous activities etc? I imagine the watch was just getting used to the data coming in HR vs Pace etc but it's very difficult to tell without seeing a full explanation from Garmin of the algorithms they use. I have seen a number of reports of people running the same course several days in succession with HR and pace very similar but getting wildly differing calorie burn. Not very helpful I know - what are you trying to use calorie burn for?
  • Thanks for the post, I did a complete reset so, yes, it clear out all dat. I re-entered all data including resting heart rate (default had it at 60). After changing that, today's run was more consistent from mile to mile and more in line with what I would expect (around 80 per mile). I'm guessing doing the reset just made it wobble for a bit. Hopefully it is all sorted now.

Calorie burn is purely so I can match food in after exercise.

Once agin, thanks for your post.
