Unable to download workouts to Forerunner 620

I created a workout in garmin connect and when I try to download to my 620 I see "Turn on Your Forerunner 620, Waiting for your device to connect..." message.

I have no wireless network, but my 620 is in its USB dock and garmin express is running.

Garmin Express does pop up when I attempt to do the download.

I have no problem uploading activities, so the connection is there.

What is the trick?

I'm running windows 8.1, and have garmin connect up in chrome.

Alternately is there a way to export the .FIT file so I can put it on the 620 using file manager?

I also tried to sync from garmin express, which completes but the workout does not end up on the 620.

The above was the behavior from modern garmin connect view. From classic view the process gets stuck at "Preparing the workout"
  • Hmm. I'm not sure what happened but after my run synced with GC this morning I noticed that the workout was on the watch. Not sure if the sync had anything to do with it. I had tried to force sync using garmin express a couple of times yesterday and was not able to get this workout to download.

Creating a "fake" activity and synching it did not get the workout to upload to my 910XT. Switching to Modern did, today, and most of the time, but not always.
  • I tried creating 4 more activities. I was unable to Duplicate from modern, so I created and edited them from the classic view. I tried downloading from the classic view as well. The activity was not on the watch even when I reseated it. I tried downloading from modern and noticed on garmin express that it was doing something, "syncing one item" or similar message. NoteI did not look for activity on garmin express from the classic view.

When I removed the watch from the platform it went into "updating" mode, but still the activity was not on the watch.

I created a fake activity and after synching the workouts are still not on the watch.

I'm stymied as to how the one workout got on the watch, and I have to say this is very frustrating.
  • Even stranger is that I see 3 of the 4 .FIT files from today in the WORKOUTS folder, but I don't see them when browsing through My Workouts on the watch. I even tried power cycling the watch but still don't see them.
  • Thanks, but...

I have 7 workouts (including the 3 I loaded today), plus one under INTRVL directory making 8. The link you posted indicates 10 are possible.

Just to test, I deleted one of the workouts I don't care about, and none of the new workouts became visible.
  • looks like garmin picks the filename -- it's an encoded date/time that the file was created. My names are like "Interval 5x1000m" (see https://forums.garmin.com/archive/index.php/t-74327.html)

actually it was just 2 workouts created today that got copied into that folder, I guess because there were three files which started with 5 meaning 2015. Hmm, I wish I'd taken a screen shot before moving these around because the date modified got changed.

yes after moving the files into NEWFILES and removing device from USB, I saw "updating" and the files got moved back. Still only can see the one I created the other day when I look at My Workouts on the watch UI

just curious -- do you have garmin software knowledge or are you suggesting just trying different things? I don't mind trying things to characterize this, but I hope that someone from garmin software development can help as well.
  • TRYOUT_62: Yes up to date firmware 3.20. Did not do a master reset yet. Not sure what you mean by "how about uploading one of these pesky workouts?"

Thanks TRYING2GOFAST. I've also not tried another browser yet.
  • Also copying this to the main thread.

I think they must have fixed something as I was able to load these to my watch using the modern garmin connect gui.

The gui itself looks different now as well.

The gui never seemed to finish, but I watched the workouts arrive in NEWFILES (named with I think a UUID). When I removed the watch from the cradle, I saw Updating, and now the workouts are in WORKOUTS named with the encoded date/time string mentioned before. I can now see these from the watch My Workouts menu.

From garmin connect the following popup is displayed long after the file is loaded to the watch, but I x'd out of it after seeing it load.

    SEND TO DEVICE
    Turn on Your Forerunner 620

    One moment please...

If you have not set up a wireless network on your device, or if the network you set up is in a different location, plug your device into your computer and open Garmin Express. If you don't have Garmin Express on this computer or need a newer version, download it now.
