TCX export: where's my speed?

Former Member

Yesterday's run (Garmin 310XT): all looks well on the Connect website, but the TCX export has no speed in its Trackpoints. Just Time, Position, DistanceMeters and HeartRateBpm, where earlier I also had AltitudeMeters and Speed.

Where has this info gone...?
  • I updated gpx file to GC and when I export it to Google Earth there was no route at all, just starting point. I noticed that start and end time of my exercise are same! Obviousuly there is a problem now wit export function on GC. After it took them two months (!) to solve that update problem lets see if they can fix this till June.
  • @jhogema & @mcmlxxv - it would help anyone reading your post if you'd make your activity publicly visible and provide a link to it. Without that, we can only guess what you might be seeing.

    Anyway, it's my guess you could be seeing the same bug I first reported in early December in this thread.

    OK, Jim: here's the link to an activity.

    https://connect.garmin.com/activity/717732772

    All looking as I'd expect. (first and last part were without GPS as I was indoors).

    A random sample of a Trackpoint:
    <Trackpoint>
    <Time>2015-03-12T11:29:24.000Z</Time>
    <Position>
    <LatitudeDegrees>52.192096542567015</LatitudeDegrees>
    <LongitudeDegrees>5.394438318908215</LongitudeDegrees>
    </Position>
    <DistanceMeters>1121.02001953125</DistanceMeters>
    <HeartRateBpm>
    <Value>80</Value>
    </HeartRateBpm>
    </Trackpoint>

    So no speed here.
  • Your example is interesting. In my own corrupted activity, I'll get a hard error message if I try to export to Google Earth, and if I try to export a TCX file it will create a file but that file won't successfully import into other programs.

    In your "Zielhorst Running" example, I tried two things. (1) Export to Google Earth worked, but Basecamp thought the .kml was corrupt and Google Earth only displays the start/end points and no track log is displayed. (2) Export to TCX not only worked but I loaded it successfully into my RideWithGPS account. Results is here: http://ridewithgps.com/trips/4223172

    It's great that you examined the xml file to see that speed information has disappeared. Maybe that will help Garmin with their debug. When I filed my bug and they requested more information, I sent them my original un-corrupted file so they could compare it to the corrupted version now living on their server. I was hoping that would help but there's nothing but silence coming from Garmin.

    Same here. Exporting to Google Earth shows only the start point. Interesting though, activities of few days ago show OK. GPX export shows OK in Basecamp, but doesn't show in GE from within Basecamp. Also, the result of a non Garmin GPX to KML converter doesn't show in GE neither (only a start point). As in the original export from the watch is missing some parameters that do not impact the fit or GPX files but don't convert properly to KML.
  • Same here. I posted a detailed description of the problem on https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?220362-Export-to-TCX-Where-s-the-Elevation-Data (apparently both elevation and speed have disappeared from exported TCX files since March 11). No reply from Garmin yet...
