Device (810) Gear (Bike) Selection does not transfer to Garmin Connect

I have four bikes loaded in my Edge 810 and will switch between bikes according to what I am riding (duh). What I realize however is that transferring my ride data to Garmin Connect does not seem to include the bike I selected on the 810. I have to manually go to the activity file and change the bike to the one I actually rode. It otherwise stays with the last bike selected. Am I missing something? I have different bikes set up on my 810 because they have different features, not least tire size and weights (i.e. road vs mountain). Is this gear omission in the file transfer normal? Or is there something I should be doing for this to happen automatically?
  • It doesn't happen automatically. You always have to set it on Connect. If you have Connect set to send data on to other sites (Strava, etc.), you'll have to set the gear on each site, since none of them see any changes you make on Connect. Gear information simply isn't in the file being sent.

I too would like to have 'Gear' imported in Connect. It helps differentiate for various rides as a commuter bike is different than a racer (duh)!

This is stupid. You can define bikes in both EDGE and Connect but no connection between them!
  • Add me to the list. If the device (I have both the 310 and Edge 500) lets you select gear, it should transfer to Garming connect. Otherwise why have the feature at all?
  • So i see that this started over 6 years ago and Garmin can’t figure out how to make a software update to fix this issue. They want me to buy an upgrade.

  • This feature has been removed in newer devices. You can now only have one default bike for cycling.

  • Thanks! Some things in life have no good explanation. Why was it discontinued? I have 3 bikes and 3 bikes show up on connect what was sooo hard to coordinate one field of info from the device to Connect? It gets done for so much other data.

    thanks venting done.

  • Add me to the list of people who are in disbelief - just spent an hour laboriously shifting ride gear... what a fail to allow profiles for different bikes but displaying it on the connect pages.
