Create a GPS file?

I use Mapquest to create motorcycle routes + send them to my Garmin 55. Works great, no problems, but I'd like to create a file of the route to post for other riders to download prior to the ride. Is that possible? I know I can email the route to specific users, but I'd like to post a file and let anyone that wants download it.
  • By "GPS file" I assume you mean tcx or gpx format. I wouldn't recommend using Garmin Connect since they don't provide an easy way to export tcx/gpx files from a course. Other users with a Garmin could download your route (aka "course" on Garmin Connect) directly to their Garmin GPS unit, but if you want users to be able to export a GPS file I'd recommend you use RideWithGPS.com. Their planning features are excellent and there is no requirement for users with whom you share you routes to even sign up for a free membership with RwGPS.

I'm a former MapMyRide.com user who moved to RwGPS a couple of years ago when MMR started having support/feature issues. RwGPS has become the go-to mapping site for most cycling events I participate in here in Austin TX, from social group rides to large charity events. Better and easier to use than Garmin connect, gpsies, mapmyride, bikeroutetoaster, and others I've tried.
