Comparing and Reporting on Activities on a Course

Hi there.

Perhaps I've missed the point on Courses, however there's no way I can see of comparing the same activities with each other for the same route and showing you personal best times, etc.

I had assumed that my daily commutes to and from work would be easy just to add to two separate courses, To Work and From Work, and then compare the activities against each other, just like with a segment where I can see the best times and the details of each.

I could create a segment for the entire trip but then by the very nature of the word a segment is a piece of the whole. Plus I wouldn't make it public as it runs right to and from my house, and therefore isn't so easy to monitor.

I would like to see the ability to select a Course, see all the activity I have completed on the course, sort by times, dates, etc. and carry out comparisons of data against each of the activities for a Course. I'd also like to see badges for getting personal bests on your own Courses.

Thoughts? Comments?

I agree. I'm just moving over from runkeeper where they have Routes, where you tag an activity with a route you've saved similar to garmin. But then you can open a route and see every activity you've done to see how're you're progressing. Sure;y that's the point of it? I guess you can compare activities in the Activities List but sorting by Course and then selecting up to 4 and hitting Compare Activities. But that's a faff, and you can only select 4. What i want is a list of the activities for a course listed under the course map/altitude, plus a graph of the pace over time which should hopefully keep going down!

I completely agree , this sure would be awesome , it was in the old garmin connect software I think but that hasn't been updated in 10+ years since they moved to the web based and also probably isn't compatible with any new windows

  • Did anybody ever find an answer to this..? Does Garmin Connect have this capability?

  • You have to use Segments for the purpose of ranking on certain track. Courses are primarily for the navigation.

  • Thanks. It looks like the Segments functionality is only available if I opt to make my data pubic. Do you know if it is possible to compare my own times over a given ride, without making the data public?

Not really. Of course, if you want your activities to appear on the public ranking, you have to make the concerned activity public. But you'll see you own ranking even if all your activities are private. And you can set public just your best activity, if you wish to have it listed publicly. Your own personal ranking is not affected by the privacy level at all.

  • Thanks, that's helpful. I am struggling to make the Segments tab appear in Garmin Connect, in spite of following these instructions:

    https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=l8JZsm5MAbAqaWs22qHcn5

Do you have any ideas how I might be able to access this function?

    Thanks

  • If you connected Strava to Garmin Connect, then the Garmin Segments are most likely disabled. You have to go to the GCM phone app, to menu » Training » Segments, and re-enable the Garmin segments there.

  • Sorted, thank you!
