Garmin Connect won't sync with vivosmart

I have had my vivosmart for three months now and for the last several days, Garmin Connect on my Android phone is stuck syncing data. It just displays "Syncing with vivosmart..." indefinitely and never pulls down the data. I have tried to re-pair, reboot, add and remove my device with no luck.
  • If you turn off the internet connection on your phone, it seems to me at some point it should error out. Is the vivosmart stuck in sync mode also or does it seem to be working properly?

    What you could do is connect via the clip and move the files out of the monitoring folder and then try with the phone again. If it works, then you could put back the files.

    The sync does not work and has not since Feb 23rd. I have tried rebooting the phone, reinstalling Garmin Connect, clearing the application cache. Nothing has worked.

    I sent a message to Garmin Customer Support a week or so ago and they never replied.

    I can try connecting via the clip.

    I am not able to connect to a laptop via the clip. The device is not recognized, though it does charge.
  • I had the same issue on my Win 7 64-bit PC. Here is how I fixed it:

    1. Unplug the VivoSmart from the PC.
    2. Open Garmin Connect. Go to the gear symbol in the upper right-hand corner
    3. Under "About", check for updates and update the version if it needs it.
    4. Close Connect
    5. Make sure you also exit it from the system tray.
    6. Important to make sure it is not running
    7. Connect the charging clip to your device and plug it into your computer’s USB port.
    8. On the vivosmart, firmly press and hold the screen on your vívosmart until you see the USB symbol on the vívosmart screen, then release.
    9. Give it a few seconds to connect and sync.
    10. Open Connect and it began working

    Hope this works for you like it did for me!
  • The Connect status page says Garmin is aware of syncing issues today and is working on it.

    Same issue here, Vivosmart stuck in syncing ... Issue is sudden and new!

    Same Problem

    Just got a Vivosmart replacement from Garmin and it gets stuck on sync. The computer wont recognize it and all it does its charge it.
  • Is your vivosmart setup in Express? If not, what happens when you try?

    In the clip, when you press on the battery icon and show the usb icon on the vivosmart, you can then go into the Garmin monitoring folder. I suggest you delete all the files in that folder except the last one as that would be what you would want to sync. Then try again.

    Can you sync from a phone?

    I was able to fix it. The device was paired but not with the app. It was paired with the Bluetooth on the Note 4. I had to go to the Bluetooth settings and unpaired the device. Then I was able to pair it with the app. Thanks for the reply and hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
  • I would guess the vast majority make the same mistake of pairing with their phone rather than the connect app. I did until someone here pointed me in the right direction.
