Two Activity Trackers with One Account

Hello

I currently have a Garmin Vivofit and a Garmin 920XT. Both devices work as activity trackers / monitors however obviously the 920XT has more capacity and functionality that the Vivofit.

Monday - Friday i wear a normal wristwatch and my Vivofit and at weekends i wear my 920XT. Think of it as business mon-fri and sport / dress down at the weekend.

I would like to have my Garmin Connect update steps from both these devices so that i don't need to wear my Vivofit and at the weekends however it appears that i can only have one device linked to my account act as an activity tracker, is this correct or am i missing something?

Your assistance and guidance would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Similar problem with me. It appears Garmin does not want customer to buy and use more their products.
  • You can have only one active "24/7" activity tracker on your GC account. It's not a problem, it makes your data more accurate. Let's say you wore 2 at the same time - you'd get double the credit for your steps.

The idea is, if you have a 920, that's now the "24x7" device (as it's more accurate) and you give the VS to someone!

For me, my VF went back in the box the day I got the FR15!
  • Actually, Garmin wants you to buy ALL of their products. It just wants you to declare one of them as your Activity Tracker which is actually a very reasonable point of view. Two concurrent activity trackers essentially equate to two people. It would be kind of cool if you could just designate one a primary and it would trump the other whenever both were active at the same time. One of us should put that in the idea box. http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

The perfect Activity tracker is something like the Vivofit. Put it on and forget about it until you have to put a new battery in it once a year. It faithfully hangs around in the background and does it 24/7 quantification thing.

Your 920xt is a swimming, cycling, running triathlete’s killer device but it takes a fair amount of care and feeding. Not exactly set it and forget it like the Vivofit. And it’s a BIG honking thing. Who wants to wear that lunch box to bed?

For people who don’t want to wear or fool with two devices, Garmin has begun putting activity tracking capabilities into their high end (and a few low end) intentional exercise oriented devices. They have also been putting intentional exercise oriented features (HRM and Speed sensor support) in their activity trackers. Best of all, if you wear your activity tracker all of the time and your fitness device for intentional exercise, Garmin sorts out all of your overlap automagically (most of the time).

If you really want both of them but only want to wear one at a time, I do not believe there is any limit on the number of times you can log onto Garmin Connect and switch back and forth. 3 clicks by my count.

This doesn't really help me as i have no intention to wear a Garmin 920 mon-fri when i could be wearing a dress watch that i paid a lot more money for. i wear my vivofit and keep it hidden under the cuff of my other wrist so that i can track my steps throughout the day.

I also have no intention to wear two at the same time, i wish to wear a dress watch and vivofit together or wear my 920. The two Garmin devices would never be worn at the same time.

Not many users will wear two activity trackers, VF and 920, at the same time. There should be no problem of double credit of steps. Besides, if the Garmin Connect is smart enough, it could eliminate double steps in duplicated time.

From a user point of views, VF is low profile and small enought to be worn throughout the day. Somehow, a white/red 920 does not fit everyone daily style, especially you need to wear office wear in weekdays.

This is an example that enigineers do not fully understand customers' habit and pay enough attention to users' experience.

One possible solution is to buy another brand of activity tracker to replace vivofit and wear 920xt during exercise, and then you let some third party Apps, say Apple Health to consolidate the data of the non-Garmin activity tracker and 920xt.
