Activity names and custom categories / reporting, and website bugs

There are some really annoying Garmin Connect bugs that need to be fixed please:

1) Why do all activities go as 'untitled' by default? Why Should I even have to name every single daily activity, even after I have already categorized it as treadmill or street running, strength training, etc. Seems like an unessasary step. This field is REQUIRED if you add a manual activity on the Garmin Connect website, but NOT required on the Garmin Connect app. That doesn't make any sense. You should be able to have a default list to pick from, or create your own. See next point below.

2) I usually categorize my runs (or bike rides) as a certain type: easy ride, medium effort, speed workout, long run, etc. Why can't I categorize it this way on Garmin Connect (and create my own custom types)? Seems like a basic feature that most athletes would want to track not only total miles, duration, or total times you ran, but amount within each category of a workout. How many long runs, speed workouts, etc did you have last month? These are important reporting elements that most athletes would want and expect from Garmin. I would want my auto imported activites to go into a certain category that I could edit or pick from my custom list instead of all being 'untitled'. Manual activities should have the same options.

3) Why is there no copy and paste button for activities? I often add manual activities when I run without a watch or GPS, or on a treadmill, but I can't just copy and paste a previous one and change the mileage or duration. This would make adding manual activities so much faster.

4) Lastly, these are minor website bugs:The navigation on the garmin connect website is really awful and not user friendly. On the slide out navigation bar (top left), there is no dashboard button. Additionally, when you view the details of an activity (or after you add a manual one by clicking save), you arrive at a window showing just that activity's info. There is no way to do anything else except play with that activity / edit it's info. You can't 'close' it and go back to the activity list. You can only click and go forward or back one activity, but in order to go back to the activity list you have to go back to the main navigational slide out menu, and click activities again, and then it waits about 5 seconds to load the list. Finally, when you go to your calendar, and you have strength training activites, it still shows under each one a distance of 0 and a time of 0 (assuming you didn't enter those). It just looks sloppy and should only show info that is entered within each activity on the calendar.

It seems like Garmin just skipped the user testing on the website, these are all pretty small things I hope they update to make Garmin Connect a more usable and useful tool. Thank you!!

    Same questions from me also
  • Custom Types / TAGS

Same questions here and would like to see the option to add custom TAGS to easily find specific activities using the search filters. I like to run with friends and I'd like the ability to enter their names as tags so I can see how we progress depending on who I am running with.

    Wrong approach.

You can enter the names, and other keywords if you want, into the Notes freeform text field against an activity, and find them later using a keyword search on the Activities page in Garmin Connect online. Insisting on using tags as a particular type of metadata logical entity will do you no good.
  • Nobody at Garmin cares

Garmin is too big to care. In case you have not seen it yet. There is a GIANT opening for a company who does care to make GPS gear (really not that hard to do) and then create a monsterly good software package to go with it and it would blow Garmin out of the water. Garmin are you hearing this? You are creating a monster big gap opening for somebody to Nuke you. Garmin should really do something about the Connect software. It is by modern standards poorly configured and on top of that NON CONFIGURABLE by the user. Well enough said, I hope Garmin wakes up!
