Calories burn with and without heart rate monitor

Sorry if this has been brought up before but general search didn't bring anything up.

I have a vivosmart and premium heart rate monitor combo and I've notice a large fluctuation with calories burned with and without using the HRM. Now I would expect with the HRM it would reflect more since its getting more accurate info in form of heart rate but it's wildly different.

For instance I did a 30 minute walk the other day (without) and it registered it about 170 calories burned. A few web sites out there for walking would agree with their "web calculators". Tonight I did the same walk with the HRM and it said a whopping 312 calories. My heart rate was pretty consistent about 104. Not believing it i did some more general googling and found a few websites that agreed with it "generic what's your age, how long were you active and what was your average heart rate" calculations.

So the questions in as to what do I believe? I know calculators out there are generalized and all but that's a big difference. I don't want to use the HRM for everything if the count is too high but I also want credit for actual calories burned if it's right. If it was a 10% different I probably wouldn't even think twice but double the difference?

    Why not just eat those calories extra and see if you gain weight?

    The calories calculated are just nonsense entirely tho. I got a 920xt with heartrate monitor that tracks every single movement on top of it and that thing will give me on a 8,5 hour training around the 5500 calories burned. Yet if i eat that amount back i gain weight. So it's still to high.

    The calculated calories are better then what tomtom did tho, i would already get on a 5 hour training 8k calories burned, which was just insane.

    I look at the number more of a indication if i need to eat more or less then i normally do. They could even project a number from 1-10 so i know what i have to eat. It's a good number to compare with itself, but useless for anything outside of that.

    I have a Forerunner 920XT with a tri heart rate monitor and it keeps registering only 1 calorie burn per 1 hour session of aqua aerobics which is typicallh 400 to 500 calorie burn. I just got the monitor yesterday because the o ring on the other heart rate monitor was failing to keep the water our. I am not certain why the calorie burn only shows 1 or 2 calories per hour. I have updated my activity profile correctly to reflect my activity level, but so far nothing has worked to reflect the correct calorie burn. Is there something else I can try?
