GC autosync to Training Peaks keeps disconnecting

A few times a week my Garmin Connect autosync with Training Peaks disconnects on its own. My Strava sync stays just fine, but not to Training Peaks.

I only notice this once I upload from my 920xt to GC through my phone, and it populates in the Garmin Connect App, and in Stava, but not in Training Peaks (where I need it for my coach to see it). This causes me to get to a computer, delete the workout from GC, reconnect the GC account to TP, then manually upload the workout...a bit of a pain.

What might be causing my account to disconnect? I've reconnected them through a Mac, and PC, an iPhone browser and a iPad browser. All of them eventually disconnect. My Strava sync has never disconnected.

I don't go into the GC setting page (where the connections are listed) unless I have a problem, so I'm not accidentally hitting 'Remove Permission'.

How do I fix this?

Thanks.

  • My GC-TP has been solid since day one.

I've heard of some people having different luck connecting services depending on the web browser they were using. Since you already tested that, I'd try once more after deleting your browser's chache and cookies. If that doesn't work, submit a support ticket to Garmin Connect and Training Peaks, maybe there's a problem specficic to your account.

Thanks vic. What gets me is that it works just fine for a few days and then stops. I've used different methods of linking them, as an experiment (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad) and eventually they always disconnect.

Garmin told me it was a problem with Training Peaks and they couldn't help. Training Peaks told me it was a problem with Garmin.

I ended up using Tapiriik, which is great, but unfortunate that GC-TP doesn't work.
  • I have the exact same problem since about 2 month. I filled a report at Training Peaks and waiting an answer on their side. Stava is working perfectly.
  • Answer from Training Peaks today. I hope it will fix it for long term.

    Hi Mathieu,

Thanks for the email. We had some trouble over the last couple of weeks with our Garmin connection but it was fixed on Thursday. You should be able to reconnect now by logging into Garmin Connect, going to Settings > Account Information and disconnecting us if you see a connection there.

Then go to http://home.trainnigpeaks.com/garminconnect and reconnect there. If it says you're already connected, just click Authorize anyhow and reconnect. Once you do that, your next new workout should get the connection going again.

Thanks for the feedback...TP has been great in responding (with Garmin had been the same). I'll give it another shot.

If it fails yet again, I highly recommend tapiriik. Transfer doesn't happen instantly, but it works. I'll still use it even if the GC-TP connection works because it syncs both ways.

    Thanks again!
