Connect does not update yesterdays data

Former Member

I use Forerunner 15 (2.40), Garmin Express 3.2.29.0 (recently updated), and Garmin Connect (Firefox) on Windows 7.

Since Saturday (I think) when Forerunner updated its software via express, it does not report yesterdays results
with sync to connect.
The info on Forerunner is still there though. Have not had this problem before.

Whats going on? Bug in the software? Some mistake in my setup somewhere? Any workarounds?

Using the FR 15 daily, throughout the day. Same issue here. My steps graph looks similar to the screen shot. The first day of no data was 1/31/15 and then again on 2/2/15.
  • I think I figured out what happens with my FR15. On Wednesday I went for a late run and I came back after 12 o'clock so when I synced it was already Thursday, my Wednesday steps were lost. Yesterday I synced around 18:00 and I got 8700 steps, and I synced again this morning. My watch history shows 9400 steps but my garmin.connect was not updated with the extra steps I had from 18:00 till 24:00. After noticing this I compared the steps history with garmin.connect and there were differences for all days exept couple of them that I had synced just before I went to bed.

I will log a support ticket, but until then I will make sure that I sync just before I finish my day.
  • I have a Vivofit set up on another GC account and today I'm testing to see if it's also got the problem. (I synced at 1000 steps and won't sync again until tomorrow)

Update: When syncing the vivofit with Blue tooth, today's sync that included lots of steps from yesterday showed up correctly in both the mobile app and the GC website. I'm repeating the test today but will only use Ant+ and GE.

Pretty certain I've found the problem....

The watch records a ".fit" file everyday at mignight (one each day at 00:00) in the folder Garmin->Monitor

Since 1st February it has created none. At this point there are 50 .fit files in the folder - this might be significant rather than the date as the watch obviously has some code to prevent the storage filling up.

Perhaps everyone experiencing the problem could connect their watch and see if this is the same problem on all these FR15's (I'm using v2.4 of the software) and report here.

I have also checked using file recovery software and there is no evidence of the files ever being created.

As a work around the watch will create a file if you sync so you can record your steps if you sync late evening every day!

I'm going to reset the watch, check tonight and report back.

I am having the same issue with my FR15, since Sat 31st. Step data is not updated or entered from past days. The only data entered is my running data.

Yes! This is the reason! Have to admit that this (lack of memory) is what was suggested on the other thread I had linked above but didn't really get it. The reasons I still do not understand is:
    - it seemed to be linked with software update (well, on the other hand this needs space ...)
    - the device showed only 67% space occupied
    - but most of all: the number of steps were still recorded correctly on the device!

Now I deleted a few .FIT files, pressed "sync" on Express and a .FIT file for today appeared ...

The test is whether a .fit file is automatically created at midnight. Plugging it into your computer generates a .fit file at the current time and date.

You can only check if deleting files "fixes" after midnight (the watch history should match the figure in Garmin connect)

Check back tomorrow to see if your steps are updated for the rest of the day.

I have soft reset the watch to see if that helps - the other option is the full reset if someone else cares to try that.

In all cases the test is whether the .fit file is created AUTOMATICALLY at MIDNIGHT when it IS NOT connected to a computer. If anyone is not confident about checking the watch file system then check the history on the watch for the previous day matches the uploaded figure in Garmin connect.

Having similar issue, steps have not been processed correctly on Connect since 12/31. Memory is not an issue, Connect is the issue. From the reply from Garmin it appears they are trying so say it is an issue with my specific device, which doesn't appear to be the case. Very frustrating.

For me, the .fit files in the MONITOR directory appear to have been created when the Fr15 is synced. The oldest files I have are from Jan 16, and for each day in Jan, I have 3-4 files, with the timestamp being later and later in the day.

For Feb, I have ONE file. Just one for today, and none for previous days. The timestamp on that one file changes if I sync again (or it might be the old one is deleted and a new one created).

As far as free space on the USB slice, I have 618 kb free of 945kb total, so there is plenty of space (these files are only 1kb each).

I'd been running GE .28 and updated to .29 today.

My original suggestion was that the problem was the month switchover (as everyone else seemed to be indicating this date), however I also suggested it might be the number of .fit files.

As you have many files on some days then perhaps it is the latter. Was the last file created with a 00:00 timestamp (the auto change of day file) the 50th in the folder (or did the folder go beyond 50 files before the next 00:00 timestamp was due?).

I have a .fit file timestamped at 00:00 for everyday until I had 50 files - then no more.
