How do I change my net calorie goal from 0 to an actual number? Right now it says that I am over my goal bc I have a goal of 0.

    bump.

can a dev please answer this? There is currently no way to enter a calorie goal in garmin connect. it is set to 0. It is supposed to pull this infomration from myfitnesspal but even though I connected the two applications it is not pulling this information.

please address this issue. it's very frustrating to see such a basic feature overlooked.
  • Also calories change to any random number after editing an activity on version GCM 4.3,not on 4.1......

The syncing issue as I reported it is fixed. It seems the day flag has to refresh (new day) for myfitnesspal to push calorie goal data to GC. My March 6th calorie goal is now showing 1,500 instead of 0

I have this issue as well with syncing information from my fitness pal to Garmin. It says they both are connected but it's not showing on either app.

  • Hello, I see that this is an old post, but this is my exact issue today. I just started using Garmin Connect. Did this prove to be fixed long term? Any issues after this?

  • What Calorie goal do you speak about exactly? If you mean the Daily Goal on the Calories In / Out page, then there is no need to edit it. It is set automatically on the basis fo your personal data like the gender, age, height, weight, activity class and the Weigt Goal.

  • I would argue that it would be beneficial to be able to edit facets of the calorie calculations, particularly given Garmin's calculation of BMR is very poor, taking no account of observed changes in weight over time to recalculate based on the individual.

My weight has been very stable over 3 months at 75kg, and my average daily intake has been 3,500 kcal. However, Garmin Connect says my average Resting + Active calories during this time has been around 2,900 calories. Clearly this is incorrect as I would have added several kg of weight during this time if that calculation was accurate.

So I think it's wrong to dismiss the idea of being able to alter calorie goals, unless Garmin improve improve their resting calories calculation to take account of NEAT and the individuals weight / intake trend over time.

  • Garmin does use your weight (and also the gender, age, height, and the activity class) for the calculation of RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate - not the same as BMR - Basal Metabolic Rate). And it, of course, does take in account the weight changes, as long as they are enterred (or imported) to the GC account. However, you told yourself that your weight has been very stable, so in that case it is comprehensible that the RMR was stable too.

  • More likely is that either the Calories intake is not accurate, or that the calculation of active Calories does not match - that could be especially the case if you did not set the adequate Activity Class in your user settings, or if you do not wear the watch 24 hours a day.

  • No, it doesn’t take into account the individual’s characteristics or trend. If it did then it wouldn’t be reporting my total calories “out” as 2,900 per day; when, as my weight has been stable, it must clearly be 3,500 or I would be adding weight?

So, it would appear to me certainly that they are missing NEAT from Total Calories or their RMR calculation is generic and doesn’t take any account of the individual.
