Problem using Garmin Connect to Create a Course

Hi,

I think I have a basic problem? If I unselect the 'Stay on Roads' the route is shown as 'the crow flies' i.e. a direct path from one point to another even though this isn't possible. This doesn't make any sense?

If I do select this then the route can include off road e.g. canal paths and/or narrow pathways between houses.

Are there limitations to the route planner or am I mis-using it?

You need to understand what 'stay on roads' means. In GPS speak this means follow anything that's marked as routeable on the map being used. If this includes footpaths etc then you'll be routed down them, unless you're able to select certain avoidances (possible with certain GPS, route planning tools). Garmin Connect unfortunately isn't that customisable ....

Depends on the device you have and therefore what sort of 'roads' you want to navigate.
