one account two devices issue

I have a garmin connect account that i use to sync my garmin edge 1000 for cycling and i have just bought a vivosmart.
The problem is that i wore my vivosmart on my last bike ride of 30 miles linked to my HR monitor to track daily calories etc and used my edge as well to track my ride, speed, distance etc.
When i got home and synced them both to the same account it looks like i rode 60 miles not 30 as it saw them as 2 different activities, the other issue is that the vivosmart even though synced with my speed/cadence sensor still counted in steps so it looks like i walked the 30 miles not rode it and did 10's of thousands of steps.
Short of 2 separate accounts is there a way around this please

Just use one device at one time?

the problem with that is that i can't track my whole day.
If i wanted to know what my total calorie burn was for the the day and i wanted to see my HR for the day i would have my normal activities information on my vivosmart and my calories HR etc during the ride on my edge and would have to add calories etc up and wouldn't be able to see my HR on a single graph
the reason i bought the vivosmart was so i could track my day on it and use the edge to track just my cycling.
I thought the new connect page had 2 sections 1 for sport activities and 1 for health and fitness? the problem is both devices load to both is there not a way to split them over the 2 sections? if not then what is the point
