syncing to multiple GC user accounts from one device?

My wife has a 910xt and occasionally I use it too (mainly for swimming since I already have another GPS watch for running/biking). Before Garmin Express we were able to upload our activities to our separate Garmin Connect accounts (used Ant Agent to get all activities from watch to computer, then used Upload function on GC to just get the desired activities per account). Pretty straightforward process. Details here:

But now with Garmin Express when the activities are loaded from the watch they are all going automatically to the linked GC account. I get Garmin wants you to buy a device per user but that is expensive. Anybody solve this issue? I don't remember if it's possible to change the linked GC account without re-pairing the device. But even that wouldn't help a whole lot since there is no way to pick & choose specific activities. I think the only way to do this now is on my GC account to use the Import function and grab the FIT file I want (one at a time). On her account, she would have to delete the activity once it was uploaded to GC (if she only wanted to keep her activities on her account).
  • I don't think Garmin specifically set out to coerce people into buying extra devices. I would suggest they set out to simplify the upload process for the majority of users.

    One way around this, and it was something we Mac folk had to do way back with Garmin Training Centre, is log in under different user accounts on the PC and have Garmin Express set up under each user, mapped to each GC account. Then you just need to log in to the appropriate account and fire up GE.

    Failing that, as you've already identified, manually import the activities and manually delete the unwanted one.
  • I can setup two user accounts on my Mac and install Garmin Express on both of them. But say there were 10 activities on the watch, 5 from each person. First user logs in and runs GE, all 10 activities get uploaded and synced to his GC account. Now he's got 5 unwanted activities on GC. Person 2 logs in and runs GE, do the same 10 activities get uploaded to his GC account? So he also has 5 unwanted activities?

    How to sync one Garmin device to multiple Garmin Connect accounts

    Open Garmin Express;

    Select your device that you want to sync;

    Select the "Tools" icon;

    There should be three tabs: Utilities; Help & Manuals; Garmin Connect. Select "Garmin Connect"

    Select the "Change Account" button.

    If you have not already created a separate account, choose "Create One".

    If you already have another account, login.

    The current account should be visible next to your avatar/person running icon.

    Voila.

    The trick is to ensure that you upload your activity before the person you're sharing it with adds another activity. If that's the case, then check out other questions for that topic.

  • I've had my Garmin device associated with 2 accounts in the past. I was using a vivosmart and had a second account for my vivoactive. What I did was have my vivosmart (as the primary tracker) and Vivoactive associated with my "primary" account in Mobile and my vivoactive associated with my second account in Express. When I would sync my Vivoactive with mobile, my activity would go to my primary account. When I synced my Vivoactive with Express, it would go to my second account.

    I never had to go through the change account procedure until such time as I was ready to replace the Vivosmart with the Vivoactive as the primary tracker.
  • OP here. I didn't know about the Change Account feature but I did see that it still exists in Garmin Express. I think it's just easier to change user accounts on my Mac and then run Garmin Express from that account. I've been doing that and it works fine. But it only works great if each user syncs their activities before the other user uses the watch. Otherwise activities end up in the wrong account and then I have to save a FIT file to upload to the other account. Still liked the older system better for that reason.
  • The activities from your device will still be saved to a location on your computer. Can't remember where but easy enough to find out. Find them, then you can do a manual upload as required.
