Problem with Editing Goal and then switching back to Auto Goal

Last night, I adjusted my daily step goal, set the number of steps, selected today only and save the setting. It looked like it worked. My goal was reported as 10,000 steps for the day, the details for the day showed that I had accomplished 100% of the goal. In the dashboard, the step list view, was still working off the old number.

Today, when I checked the goal, it was step for yesterday's value and not auto goal. I reset to auto goal and my numbers for today changed as well as the goal number for the day before. I changed the goal again and then looked at the previous day, it stayed with the same value. I wonder if it because I made the change late at night (after 11:30 pst) if there is a bug in GC with times/timezones and resetting goals. Anyone else seen issues?
  • Auto goal step goals are actually generated on the device itself, not in GC. The goal on the device itself changes at midnight, but doesn't show up on the dash boards until you sync.

So, when you switch to auto on the dashboard, make sure you do a sync, and each morning, do a sync so your new goal is reflected on the dashboard.

And BTW, what device are you using, as Garmin has 4 that track steps and have auto-goal.

    Device: 920xt
I did sync after changing the goal and the watch reported the correct goal. Today, the watch did sync many times before I notice the auto goal wasn't set despite setting the goal change to only one day the night before.

I'll pay around with it again and see if I can replicate the issue.

    Jim,

We've been discussing this on the other thread about 0 step goals but are you saying that you need to switch back to autogoal before midnight or a new goal won't be calculated for the next day?
  • You can switch from auto to manual or change your manual at any time, it's just that you want to sync afterwards, so the device and GC show the same goal.
  • For me, the goal for today didn't change. I synced a number of times. Does it make sense that by the following morning, the vivosmart is already on to the next day and it's too late to autoset a goal for that day?
  • I just changed from auto back to manual, after syncing to get today's auto goal to GC (it showed up correctly in all places). When I switched to manual, synced again, and my correct manual goal is on the steps widget, report widget for steps, and the device itself.
  • Well, this is what I did.
I synced again. Goal didn't change.
Switched to manual. Synced. Goal didn't change.
Switched to auto. Synced. Goal didn't change however the steps report flipped to 0.
Switched back to manual. Goal returned to report. I'm at manual right now.
  • Maybe you're seeing something that is vivosmart specific. With the FR15, the auto step goal would get "stuck" at a certain point and would never change, and it was resolved with a FW update last fall.

I'm thinking that's what it will need. Hopefully, someone at Garmin will notice the 2 threads on this subject and apply a fix along the way.

When I switched to manual, I chose that it was only for today so what I will do though is see what will happen if I set myself to auto at the very end of the day rather than in the morning. After that, I'll see what happens if I select "until I change it".
  • I never use the "today only" switch, so that is a difference.

Also, when I'm making the changes, I do it on the GC website and not the app, and sync using Garmin Express.
