unable to upload file (920xt)

hey everyone,

so yesterday I used my 920xt for the first time to record a cross-country skiing activity. For that I created a new profile (ski/snowboard -> other) on the watch. The recording went pretty well (I used the HR monitor from my Edge 1000, so without the running dynamics) except that no elevation gain (or loss) was recorded.

Back home I first tried to upload the activity using WiFi which failed. So I connected the watch via USB and tried to sync it to garmin connect using garmin express, but also there I got some error saying that there was a problem connecting to garmin's server. So I tried to import the activity manually into garmin connect, but also that didn't help because I got an error saying "undefined". Just to be sure i tried to upload some other workouts (no cross-country skiing) which worked like usual.

After that I opened garmin basecamp and imported the activity. And oddly enough it worked like a charm, there was the whole track including the data from the HR monitor and the elevation!!!!

And also uploading the track to strava worked without problems (but strava used their own elevation to show gain and loss)

The last thing i tried was exporting the data from basecamp and strava using the *.gpx format and then uploading the newly created file to garmin connect. But that somehow messed everything up because now a lot of data including HR, distance, elevation, speed was missing or completely wrong (even though the track on the map was correct)

so can please someone have a look at the original file and tell me what's wrong or why it is broken.

I should also mention that I'm using the software version 2.64 and the GPS version 2.70. The reason behind that is that with version 2.50 (GPS 2.70) the gps tracking was horrible, like off by more then 1k on a 10k run (tested it on multiple occasions)
  • I have the same problem. Seems like a bug of some sort. Hopefully Garmin is working on this case, maybe someone from Garmin can respond? ..

abcd_1234, did you try exporting it as a .tcx file instead of .gpx and then import it

and yes Garmin is working on this :)

do you mean exporting from garmin basecamp?

but I don't understand where the exact problem is. Is it that the created profile doesn't work? Because when i use the running profile everything seems to work as it should

you are already posting in the FR920 forum ;-)

should use running profile instead of your created one...thought they solved this in beta 2.57
changing the profile into running in the file sorts the upload to Garmin Connect
search in the FR920 forum for more help...

Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.57:

Improve barometer calibration to eliminate noticeable elevation offsets on some activities.
Add support for creating ski/snowboard activity profiles. Displays speed, distance, vertical drop, and includes an automatic run counter (with Auto Pause for the lift line).
    Improve Wi-Fi reliability.

yeah sorry for the double post, I tried to delete the other one but didn't find a way to do so :(

But the thing is that i used a ski/snowboard activity profile to create the one for cross-country skiing. And I also noticed, using the regular "ski" or "snowboard" profile, that the elevation is not recorded.

The only problem I have with using a running profile, is that this will mess up my current VO2_max and other "running dynamics"
  • I'm having similar problems with my Edge 810 and Garmin Express. It used to work fine, but I just ported all my files over to a new Mac Air and it no longer works. I keep getting the "Garmin Express cannot sync some of your files" error message. I deleted the Edge from Express and reconnected it - but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? And if Garmin is working on this, could they please hurry up!

Not a problem with your device - http://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status

I had the problem already prior to the "official" server problems and I still have it, even though the problems seem to be fixed.

    do not worry about VO2_max
it will come back after a while :)

    try this one...

    Sport-profiles-for-downhill-skiing-and-ski-touring

    or this one...

    Beta-2-64-Ski-profile-zero-altitude

thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely try them and let you know what happened.

    Hello abcd,

I ran your file thru the FFRT and whatever was wrong was very minor. There were no warnings or indications as to what was wrong.

So....here ya go. Fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

Thank you Sir! Lets just hope that Garmin figures out how to fix this, because the XC season is soon coming to an end...
