training effect makes no sense

This is a possible bug report. If this is not a correct place to contact, please inform me of a better one.

My question is about the training effect.

We can see the training effect at 3.3 with avg heart rate 110, top 159 for 45 minutes.

We can see training effect at 1.1 with avg heart rate 163, top 232 for 60 minutes.

It makes no sense to me at all. Can you explain this to me or is it a bug? Isn't it supposed to be about the heart rate?
  • Not sure what the algorithm is for the TE but I assume that it uses time spent in HR zones as the basis for the calculation - don't know whether it also uses any distance, elevation or activity type data as I would have thought that TE should be different for the same HR on a bike as opposed to running or swimming. The anomalous TE seems to be for an activity with 0 distance - what type of workout was this? Would be interested to know what your settings are for Max Heart Rate resting etc. The HR for the run seems low do you think that's correct and do you think the HR is correct for the other activity?

The activity was using a rowing device in a gym.

Well, "calories" is very low as well, but that applies to both screenshots. For running activity it should be around 500 000-700 000 calories (500-700 kilocalories) I think, not 200.

Other than that I think the numbers are ok.
  • Second track looks quite strange - HR is very spiky and a max HR of 232 looks anomalously high particularly compared with the track from your run. I agree that the TE looks strange - probably the one for the run is about right but would need to see what TE you are getting for other runs - was it a hard, steady, easy run for you?
