What a frustrating experience

Well, this is my first hand-held Garmin GPS, and so far, I'm somewhat underwhelmed.

The software is garbage. Basecamp is unintuitive, and so far, I haven't managed to obtain my 'free' BirdsEye maps. That's because it doesn't recognise my login. The very login I've used to access this forum. The very same login I used to activate the BirdsEye card. And MyGarmin. I know I'm not alone in this: I searched for it. It seems the answer is to contact 'support' but they're not open when I'm at home. Brilliant.

Not a problem. I've given up on ever getting Birdseye to work. I found Talky Toaster, and installed one of their maps.

Now then. Route planning. That doesn't really work either, does it?

Having come from using an android tablet with ViewRanger installed, I can't help thinking that Garmin are about 100 years behind. ViewRanger is intuitive, the software is excellent. But I was hoping to use a more robust bit of hardware: something lighter, tougher, more hiker-friendly.

So far, I can't help thinking I should have just picked up a rock and written 'you are here' on it. That would be tough and long-lasting, and about as useful as this sorry thing.

It's going back in the morning. What a waste of 24 hours. Garmin: you should be ashamed of yourselves.
