Step Goal of 0 in Report

For the most part, reports are working fine for me. I do have this niggling issue that comes up from time to time but has now happened for the last 2 days in a row. Although my daily step widget shows my steps and goals properly, my steps report shows a goal of 0 for both yesterday and today.

Has anyone else encountered this?
  • If you leave it at auto, today may flip to 0 also. I don't know of a way to go back but if you do flip to 0 today, switching to manual today should get the goal into the report for today - right? Then you can wait until tomorrow and switch it to automatic to generate the auto goal and, if it flips to 0, change it to manual again.
  • So today, the goal was there in the report until I went in and edited an activity. When i went back, the goal was reset to 0.
So I set a manual goal just for today and the goal reappeared. I'll see what happens tomorrow.
  • What did you change in the activity? That could be a clue to what's happening I added gear to an activity, but the goal remained as it was.
  • I adjusted the time by a few seconds, distance, the type of activity from running to walking and set fitness as the category.
That's about it. It may just have been a coincidence as you can't touch steps when you edit an activity.

I just manually set the goal for today. Do you think that tomorrow, my goal for today will revert to 0 when it auto calculates the goal for tomorrow? If it doesn't, it's not a big inconvenience. If it does, then technically it's a small bug that should be corrected. I imagine it doesn't affect firmware or Mobile Connect.
  • I have used manual goal for the last few months, and never seen the 0 in the step report until yesterday when I switch to auto step goal. And other than changing name and/or gear for an activity, I can't think of the last time I edited an activity.

It's 100% understandable that you can't touch steps in an activity. The ONLY way to get steps is to have them reported by a garmin device. Otherwise it would be possible to present unreal numbers in step leaderboards and challenges, even if due to an editing typo.
  • By switching to manual, my report was correct. I exceeded my goal by about 500 steps yesterday. When I checked this morning, the goal was still there but my goal for today was the same as yesterday. Today, I will switch back to autogoal at the end of the day rather than tomorrow morning.
  • I had a sync issue yesterday for some unknown reason. It took about 6 tries and eventually it synced ok. Yesterday was the first time in about 2 weeks but I'm back to a 0 goal in my report for yesterday. I've been set to autogoal all this time. Today is fine so far.

I was away for 2 weeks and didn't log activities even though I actually did more steps than normal. I also synced a lot less. I never encountered a 0 goal in all that time.
  • No sync issues today however, I edited an activity and my goal in reports is 0 again.
  • My step goal (only in the step report) did not go to 0 yesterday. Yesterday, I only made very minor adjustments to my activities for the day. For example, I onlu changed the activity from running to walking, etc. but very little else.

Today, however, it reverted to 0.
I did do all sorts of adjustments. I adjusted the duration of the activities. I changed the type of activities. I used a stationary bike and entered the distance. I also adjusted my stride length a bit. I did verify reports each step of the way to try to identify what I did that would cause this. However, because there is a slight lag before reports are updated, I couldn't tell.

I am convinced that editing activities causes this to happen. I suspect that there is a field in the activity database that is similar in name to a field used in the step report and the person who programmed it probably took the wrong field for when changes trigger new report parameters.
  • Today, I took my time and made my adjustments one-at-a-time. Everything was solid until I changed my stride length. Immediately after updating my stride length, my goal in the report for the day went to 0 again. So it's now 3 days out of 4 where my goal is 0 but at least I think I know now what not to do. The good news for me is that I think my stride length is probably as tweaked as it can be so I can avoid doing it in the future.

Can someone please provide me with the link to report the bug?
