Garmin 510 Not Working Post Upgrade to 3.40

I upgraded my software yesterday on my 510 and all *** broke loose. I lost all my ride data, settings, bike profiles, etc. Additionally, I am now unable to create new settings on the device. For example, when I try to add a bike, the changes I make are not saved. The device thinks my bike weighs 4,817 pounds and will not allow me to change it. Nor can I change any of the other settings. Very frustrating!

Garmin 510 lost profiles, lost devices, won't record, no data, won't leave Home scree

I and several riding partners have all had very similar problems. In fact, 3 of us in one day all had varying degrees of problems, many the same as you listed.

    • I updated to 3.4 a couple of weeks ago
    • Yesterday the trouble started
    • The 510 got "stuck" on the boot up screen saying "Loading Profiles" -- I restarted
    • Upon restart, all profiles gone, devices gone, odd UI behavior
    • I started the ride (pressed start button) and it stayed on Home screen with no data fields showing
    • I hit "start" button again (pause) and got the "Save" or "Discard" screen
    • If I do anything at this point (Save, Discard, Start btn), either locks up or says "Timer Started" but stays on the screen
    • I did my ride (~90 min) and connected to my computer aftewards
    • I see a ride in the Activities, but it is tiny -- when I load to Strava it only captured the first 2 min
    • Device is unusable
    • I've tried re-installing 3.4 -- no luck, broken still

    I encountered a different problem:
If I take a break for a few sec within riding, the 510 disconnects the power meter, and I can't connect it again.

    It's frustrating.
