Creating courses from KML's

Hi, I'm new to Garmin following a surprise Edge Touring xmas gift and loving what it can do. All the features like saving locations, navigating, creating courses in Connect are great but I'm having trouble creating a course from KML's in GPSies.

I convert to GPX, import as an activity into Connect, create a course and everything is as I expect with fine detail. However, when I transfer to my device the detail disappears and I just get a few points joined together by straight lines vaguely resembling the course and it's impossible to navigate.

Below is what I get in Connect and what it looks like on the device. This happens with both courses I've tracked with my iPhone and saved to GPSies and other peoples courses, even from official sources. Any advice on how to get round this would be appreciated.

Convert the activity on Garmin Connect to a course on Garmin Connect, then send it back to your Touring. If a course is really what you want.

Thanks voiceresponse. Activities that I record on the Edge will convert and can be re-saved on the device no problem. It's routes from the internet that aren't working correctly meaning I can't simply upload someone else's routes and go, I have to manually create my own.

If you have an edge of some flavor, then you might want to look through the edge sub-forums. There is a lot of conversations in them about courses. I'm not sure all edges will handle a .gpx file. But for sure, not all .gpx files contain the proper information for the edge to be able to use them.

I have an edge500, however I rarely use courses. But I have created them on mapmyride, ridewithgps and strava and succecfully put them on my 500. I just place them in the /garmin/newfiles folder and they convert when my 500 is powered up the next time. The ones that don't convert remain in the /garmin/newfiles folder. However, I'm not too sure if I've been using .gpx or .tcx files. It's been awhile. but like I said, the various edge sub-forums have a lot of threads you might glean some info from. As for Garmin Connect, I've used it to make a few courses but I prefer the way the editor behaves on the other sites.

there are two types of gpx files.
breadcrump trail, containing a long list of points
navigation files (for lack of a better word) containing just a view point and relying on device or software to calculate the route.
your example is of the latter type.
you need to convert it.
and edge 500 only support .crs files. it will not support .gpx.
so you need to import the file with the points into a device or application capable of routing and convert it.
the converted file can then be used in your edge.
