New user questions for a Masters Project

Hello,

I am a grad student using 5 Garmin 305 gps units to do a Masters project. I am tracking the movements of horses overnight and need at least 10 hours of data per time point. So far the batteries on the gps units are not lasting that long. I am getting anywhere from 4-8 hours before they die. I am charging them for 4 hours each day.

I am also new to garmin connect and would like to know if one can manipulate the tracking data to show only a certain time frame. This way I could standardize the distance traveled over a certain number of hours.

Also, is there a way to tell what data came from which device on Garmin connect? So far the tracks have all been grouped together and I can't tell which map came from which horse.

Thanks!
B
  • What 305s are these - forerunner or Edge - I am assuming forerunner - not sure how to solve the battery problem your only option would be to purchase different units some of the recent watches or cycle computers are designed for longer events and so battery life will be better. As for the tracking data you cannot manipulate it easily but if you search the forums I'm sure that you can find utilities etc that will let you edit and manipulate the base files before they are uploaded to connect. You can also create workouts that will start a new lap every hour say and these will show with seprate values for each hour. You can split laps in a variety of ways - have a look at workouts in Training Centre and in Connect. To split the 5 devices I think the best way is to create five different connect accounts. Hope this helps
