RubiTrack 3

It's been a few weeks that Garmin Connect is not updating my tracks anymore. (See all the topics with problems about GC)
I'm looking for something different and found RubiTrack 3. It's not free but I want some statistics for my hiking trips and GC is not doing a good job for the moment. (Still waiting to make my year evaluation of 2014)
Anyone here who is using the Rubitrack program for iMac? Are you happy with it? Better than GC?

Thanks for any information.

  • I've been using it since before it officially came out. It's a excellent program. Better than GC? In almost every way, but I still use GC, too, since I've had no problems with my Edge 800 or Fenix and GC. RubiTrack is well worth the money.
  • I've used it for about three years, but entirely stopped with the end of 2014. I would not consider it "better" than Garmin Connect anymore…

Development of rubiTrack has stalled (feature-wise since more than a year); many of the "recent" metrics of newer Garmin watches cannot be shown. It's okay for running/hiking and cycling, but useless if you want to analyze swim data (at least for indoor swims) or brick (duathlon/triathlon/multisport/…) sessions.
I also bought the iOS app. Both applications are now free for the basic version, and even the "+" premium versions are cheaper than what I paid. I guess Markus has realized that he cannot compete to Garmin Connect. Data handling is complicated, especially for the newer Bluetooth/Wifi enabled devices. Either you have to use the USB mass storage mode to access the files, or pull the data from Garmin Connect (hence you cannot avoid using it, at least as temporary storage).

Apart from that, rubiTrack slowed down with every imported activity. I would not consider my machine under-powered (2012 Macbook Pro i7, then 2014 Macbook Pro i5), but I had to distribute the activities over multiple files (~100MB each) for better performance.

I would not recommend to buy the premium version anymore. Have you considered Garmin Basecamp? For hiking/cross-country skiing, it might fit your needs. It's targeted for route planning, but can also read recorded tracks.

Thanks for the information Christophe. I'm using basecamp for the moment but the GPX files are not equal analyzed like GC.

Again thanks for the information, you saved me 30 euro's. :)
