Mismatch between calories on Garmin Connect and MFP adjustment

I am wearing a 920XT all day round for both activities and step tracking.

Today I have done one cycle activity and also a minimal amount of walking, and the watch and Garmin Connect are consistent at around 1700 calories as of now. All looks good to me.

MFP which is linked to my GC account has taken the cycling activity correctly but something is wrong with the steps adjustment. In MFP it is showing a calorie adjustment based on around 1900 calories burned as of now. This adjustment looks way too high for the number of steps I have done and besides surely it should match the watch?

Any ideas? Garmin or MFP issue? I have emailed both their support addresses and hope they don't blame it on each other! I think it's fair to say Garmin-MFP integration has been far from smooth up to now!
  • To follow up on this, I believe the issue is with Garmin Connect, if it is indeed an issue.

    Maybe this is clearer:

I noticed yesterday that the Garmin calorie adjustment on MFP looked too high, so I checked the reports section of the Garmin connect website and there is an inconsistency between Active Calories.

If I look at the "All Activities" section then I see:

    - Active Calories for Weds 14th Jan = 736 total ( 150 walking, 586 cycling )

    - Total Calories for Weds 14th Jan = 1951 BMI + 864 active.

This is a differential of 128, and it appears the higher number is the one sent to MFP.

If I look at other days there are also inconsistencies, in fact for Tuesday 13th the disparity is over 300!

Can anyone else maybe check their Garmin Connect reports to see if it's just me? I'm worried an overestimation of step calorie burn is being sent to MFP. I was almost certainly seeing smaller adjustments before all the recent problems between GC and MFP.

For what it's worth, I have raised this with Garmin - no response at all so far. I also raised it with MFP who sent me back to Garmin ;-)
