maps

is there a way to not show maps when working out inside??
  • disable the GPS. If the activity you upload has position data in it, you will get a map. At least for me, when my GPS is disabled, I didn't get a map in Garmin Connect. However it's probably been two years since I've uploaded an activity with no GPS data. So I don't really know how the modern GC handles it.

With no GPS, no map. It needs a GPS location to determine a map.

Except I'm having a problem now where the maps aren't showing up (for my last 2 workouts) Distance is there. splits are there. but not displayed on the map... I'm sort of annoyed. (I can't find any one else with this problem)
  • Well did you make sure the GPS on the device was enabled again. Many of Garmin's device automatically enable the GPS at startup, but I don't know if they all do after it's been set to "disable". One time I had a similar issue with maps not showing up in Garmin Connect for a few activities. I exported them from GC to my computer then manually uploaded them back to GC and the map/track was there. Voodoo! But the issue for mine may not be the same as yours.

Sometimes it helps to post the activity file from your device in a thread in the sub-forum for your device. Then someone that has software to view it can see what might be happening.

I figured that my GPS must be enabled, or I wouldn't be getting distance information.

I'll see about doing an export/reupload... how do I do that? :o Also. howcan I grab the activity file - I'll also try your suggestion of posting in the device sub-thread.

ok. so I figured out the export (but I had to switch the the old view....couldn't find it in modern)

I also loaded the information in the old Training Center software and the map information isn't showing up there either.... I'll head over to subforum... Thanks again... I still have no idea why it would have stopped working all of a sudden.

You haven't said what device, but that's not necessarily true. If you're using an Edge, then it could get speed/distance from a speed/cadence sensor, and I think some of the running devices do "dead reckoning" using an accelerometer to determine distance (probably not too well if the run is long enough).

I have the Forerunner 305. I found another thread of people having the same problem. even more interesting - It's not showing up in Training Center, Garmin Connect, or DailyMile but if I go look at that data on the unit itself, I can see each split showing up correctly on the map. Very peculiar. But now I know I'm not alone. Would be nice to figure out what's going on.
