3248 steps does not equal 898 calories

Can someone please explain how the Connect app shows 898 calories burned with only 3248 steps today?

Are you looking at total calories (including those based on BMR) or just activity caloriries? Your BMR calories start increasing at Midnight, and increase throughout the day.

Well, I guess I'm not sure I'm looking at the calories that are listed in the connect app under the steps section

Look at the report widget for "total calories. Each bar has two sections. Blue is BMR, red activity cals. If you're looking at the steps widget, you're seeing total (activity + BMR cals)
  • Its all a bit confusing. Today I have simply walked around a museum, no activities such as running etc. Using a 920. ~10000 steps.

On the All activities->Active Calories report, I have 57 walking calories for today.

On the calorie widget I have 237 active calories.

My Fitness Pal Garmin Calorie adjustment is 159.

    Go back to yesterday....

All activities->Active Calories - 1669 calories from running, correct. 411 calories from walking. ~30000 steps including the 2 hour run.

Calories widget - 2019 active calories.

MFP adjustment - 263 calories ( on top of the 1669 running calories that were sent there ).

Furthermore the number of calories including BMR on the connect site is around 400 higher than what my 920XT showed last night.

Confused? Me too. I am struggling to believe in the numbers on Connect and hence on MFP. The 920 numbers seem perfectly logical as a starting point.

I'm using the android app and I don't have that widget. These are the ones I have: steps, calories (does not give any information other than "Use Garmin Connect and MyFitness Pal to track your calories" - when you select Get Started and link accounts it does nothing), sleep, personal records, activities, courses, workouts, badges, weights and segments.

Under the first widget, steps - it shows distance (2.3 mi), steps (6.641) and calories (1,155)- I'm wondering which calories this is referring to.

The 1155 calories is your total calorie burn so far today - it includes those based on your BMR.

Also have a 920. I rode yesterday, burning 965. I took about 13K steps. Garmin Connect reported the 965 correctly to MFP but also added a calorie adjustment of 819. For what? Then when I look at Garmin Connect home page (iOs), it says I burned 2000 calories yesterday.

    WTF?
  • I sent my numbers to tech support yesterday, but as yet they havent replied. Will update if they do.
