Time to start thinking outside the box GARMIN

This site is still so screwed up. At least for me anyway. I know, I know, "issues are resolved, your data may be a day or two behind". Not my experience. I have a MAC and my internet is running just fine. When I go to Garmin, it's littered with misc pop up adds one of which is telling me to install Java plug in. I went to Java's website directly and updated. When I go back to Garmin, I get the same message and a ton of pop ups. I think the site may be corrupted or something (not a big computer person). Used to LOVE your site, now I can't stand to open it (sometimes I cant). Been like a week now. Time to go elsewhere. Very disappointing.

Oh yeah. Can't manually upload anymore. Hopefully the screen shot worked showing error message.
  • That looks like the page to "manually add" an activity. Not to manually "upload" an activity. And is this through the mobile app or using the Garmin Connect website?
  • As for the OP, Garmin Connect does have issues, but for me, it works for the little stuff I do with it. But there are so many more fitness sites out there, why pigeon hole yourself here with Garmin? Try the others. I use several.

Will other sites upload my run from my Garmin watch? Also, I can't upload ANYTHING so I've been manually adding. Now that doesn't work. Thanks for the response.
  • Some sites may upload the data. Depends on the sites, you'll have to read their FAQ's and help sections about getting data to them from Garmin devices. I don't have a device that requires an ant stick, but there's a 50/50 chance or better yours does. But I think some sites can handle that. Even if they don't, you can still get Garmin Express working correctly with your device to upload data to Garmin Connect. Then some sites such as Strava will grab the data from Garmin Connect once you set them up to do that. I think Mapmyride will too.

If you have not used other sites much, then you'll eventually find that some do very well in showing some data, but do not show other data in the manner you want it, or just do it poorly. So you might find yourself using several different sites to view the different aspects of your data or to use certain features. I did, though not as frequent as I used to. I find now I'm content with less scrutinizing of my data.

Still without knowing a little more detail about what device you have and what you want out of it, it's hard to give specific help and opinion. Garmin make many different devices and many don't work well with Garmin Connect. Garmin Connect is a "fitness" site and Garmin's "fitness" devices are their priority for the website--- IMO.
  • Garmin needs to just give up and buy/partner with Strava or SportTracks. Garmin web developers are slow to implement, don't listen to customers and judging by the bugs not very good.

I was able to replicate your issue when using the "Classic" interface. Try adding a manual activity using the Modern interface. That worked for me.

This is just conjecture and opinion on my part, but I think the other fitness sites were slow to adopt some of the newer features Garmin introduced and GC started out as a way to showcase those features. However in doing so, they may have now bit off more than they can chew with every one wanting Garmin to do it all from device manufacturing to end user software, website and cloud apps. Might be a anti-trust lawsuit in the future if they are successful at it, as the others fitness sites will cry foul. Especially due to the fact that GC is free.
  • Garmin Connect is not free...it's sold alongside their hardware right on the side of the box and in many cases the hardware is useless without Garmin Connect.
  • I agree. Definitely not free. As with most things labeled "free," monetization is more or less hidden through some other channel.
